Solid State Reduced Voltage Panels (Soft Start)
Solid state starters are a popular choice for applications requiring programmable reduced voltage starting. Soft start panels are complete motor control packages used in applications requiring a disconnecting means, starting circuitry, and motor overload protection.
These Soft starts are standard duty. In standard duty applications the soft start is designed to provide: Starting at 4x In for 23 seconds or at 3x In for 46 seconds from a cold state. Starting at 3x In for 23 seconds or at 4x In for 12 seconds with a load factor of 50% and with 10 starts per hour or an equivalent thermal cycling. The motor thermal protection conforms to Class 10 and 20 overload protection. For severe duty or high inertia loads, derate by 1 HP Size. Please consult factory for submersible applications.
New Utility Transformers allow higher available Fault Currents. When advised, we can provide controls with proper interrupting ratings. Short Circuits may cause welding, which is not considered a failure of the Contactor. (see UL508, Para 53)
Soft Start panels include:
- NEMA 3R or better Enclosure;
- Solid state starter (soft start);
- Main circuit breaker with lockable handle;
- “Full Bypass” Contactor;
- Fused control transformer and 115v control circuitry;
- Run light;
- Fault light;
- Hand-Off-Auto selector switch;
- Terminal block for remote device.
Altistart 48 Soft Starts
The Altistart 48 soft start combines ease of selection with simple installation and high motor control performance. With its exclusive and patented motor Torque Control System, the Altistart 48 eliminates uncontrolled motor acceleration and deceleration, a problem inherent with standard voltage ramp soft starts. The Altistart 48 provides complete motor and machine protection and is available for motors ranging from 208 to 575 volts. In addition to a built-in display and programming terminal, a remote keypad option and programming software is available to ease integration and commissioning. The Altistart 48 has a built-in Modbus port and is offered with serial communication gateways to such popular networks as Ethernet and DeviceNet.
